Nestled in the beautiful market town of Ellesmere the Ellesmere hotel provides a warm and friendly welcome with comfortable accommodation and good home cooked food. We serve full English or continental breakfasts as well as evening meals in our restaurant. We also have a function room available for hire which we use for weddings, birthdays, funeral teas and various parties. We can provide a range of menus from simple buffets through to three course meals.
The Ancient Britons established a camp by the side of the glacial mere at Ellesmere and started fishing, boating and walking 100s of years on that that much has changed and Ellesmere is a popular place to visit at any time of year. Ellesmere is now a wonderful market town with medieval streets, Georgian houses and half-timbered buildings taking you back to a time when the pace of life was much slower.
The first market charter for Ellesmere was granted by Henry III and there is still a weekly market which has been held in the town since 1221, of course we now have a range of shops selling everything from local produce to antiques, books and anything else you might need. The church of St Mary, (1225) was built by the Knights of St John. The 15th century chapel still displays the badges of the lords of the manor and the castle of Ellesmere. As a community lead market town we do have quite regular festivals as well as antique markets and other events. The Ellesmere Triathlon, where competitors brave the cold waters of the Mere is now an annual event that brings both locals and visitors into town for what is really just a day of jolly good fun.
